The Challenge
CenterPoint Church in Gahanna was building a brand-new stage — but had almost nothing to light it. A handful of conventional fixtures clustered on the side walls were the only stage lighting in the room, with no DMX control and no way to shape a look for worship. The vaulted, cathedral-style ceiling had no lighting grid to hang from, so there was nowhere obvious to even begin.
The church wanted a system that could do more than switch on: warm, controllable light for the platform, color and movement for dynamic moments, and a clean overhead position that fit the architecture — all run from their front-of-house position.
Before — a new stage lit only by house cans
After — a full overhead rig with color and movement
Our Solution
Tech in Church engineered and installed the overhead lighting system the room was missing. A 20 ft Schedule 40 pipe was rigged across the front of the stage and hung level from the vaulted wood-truss ceiling — six vertical anchors carrying the load, with an independent secondary safety over the congregation. Onto that bar went ten fixtures: four dual-color (warm/cool white) pars for clean key light on faces, two RGBWA+UV color pars for wing wash, and four RGBWA+UV moving heads for color and movement across the stage.
Behind the fixtures, we built the signal backbone — an opto-isolated DMX splitter at front-of-house feeding two home-run lines, one to the overhead bar and one to the stage, landed on wall-plate terminations and verified to every fixture. We handed off a mounted, wired, powered, signal-verified system, ready to program. From there the church’s own tech team took the reins — programming the looks, adding their backdrop and cross accents, and running the whole rig from a front-of-house laptop.
